Special Adoptions

Special Feature

June 7 2003

Sometimes, the mark of a true hero is that she doesn't even know she's being one!

Animals with special needs are all hoping for a hero - someone to overlook their physical imperfections, and love them for the quality of their hearts. And every day, there are people out there who heed the call.

Maybe some of these adopters have unusually sensitive ears - maybe they can hear the purred out prayers or the hopeful wagging of tails across the miles. Or maybe they have keen eyes - and can see beauty where others might see flaws.

But whatever it is, we know that every day someone adopts an animal others called "imperfect." And they bring their new baby home, convinced that they've got the "pick of the litter" - not because the animal was the prettiest or the healthiest or the most well behaved, but because the animal was closest to their own hearts.

This week's feature is dedicated to all of the people out there who have been heroes to a special needs animal - and don't even see it that way.
