More than 400 people from 32 states and three other countries attended the April 2004 No More Homeless Pets conference.
Held in Las Vegas, it was an inspiring gathering of folks from all walks of life, determined to learn together how to make a world where every pet has a place to call home.
"We can do it," said Kartick Satyanaraya, who came with Geeta Seshamani from New Delhi, India, to attend the conference. "We have so many mountains to climb, but the conference made me feel that we can. Best Friends was saying, 'You can do it, and this is the way.'"
These two visitors have not one, but two, organizations in India that promote animal welfare. Friendicoes Seca is a fully operational sanctuary for dogs, cats, monkeys and farm animals. And Wildlife SOS rescues and rehabilitates bears who have been captured and tormented for entertainment, helping the people who make their living in this trade find more positive employment to support their families.
Despite all they're doing, they remarked, "We can do so much more even. We hope we will have a long relationship with the people at Best Friends."
