Public Relations How to get media attention for your
organization and solving your PR
problems
Barbara Williamson, Media Relations Manager
Barbara Williamson has been the media relations manager at Best Friends since November 2002. She works with the media (radio, TV, newspapers, Internet-based publications, documentary filmmakers) to promote Best Friends and its mission. Her job involves responding to media queries, maintaining relationships with the media, and actively promoting Best Friends to media people, making sure they get the information they need and talk to the appropriate staff people. Barbara also researches and writes stories for the online weekly newsletter, and compiles stories for the weekly No More Homeless Pets news.
Before coming to Best Friends, Barbara was the media relations officer for nine years at Northern Arizona University in Flagstaff. Prior to that, she worked as a reporter at a series of community newspapers in Arizona, New Mexico and California. She got to know Best Friends as an informal animal rescuer and she volunteered with several animal rescue groups in Flagstaff. Barbara has been a long-time member of Best Friends.
Barbara lives in Kanab, Utah, with 15 hooligan cats, all of them rescues, and although she says she will always have kitties, she has fantasies of living in a house with no furballs.
